Jarryd Bailey: Montane Bonsai
Jarryd has practised bonsai since he was 12 years old. He completed an apprenticeship at Crataegus Bonsai (Portland Oregon) and now operates Montane Bonsai Garden on the northern slopes of Mt Wellington. As his nursery’s name suggests, Jarryd has love ofTasmania’s mountain wilderness and the species that grow there, particularly Tasmania’s relic conifers and Australia’s only true cold climate deciduous plant, the myrtle beech Nothofagus cunninghamii.
Whether refining advanced nursery stock, yamadori or unusual or difficult stock, Jarryd brings his creative approach to bringing the best out of the material. He believes bonsai makes people reconnect with nature and brings a sense of peace.
Another successful show in the books!
Thanks to everyone for attending our annual show in September, it was a huge success and we were delighted with the quality of trees, the helpful members who assisted us and the whole community for turning out to attend and support us.
Please see all the photos on our show page:
