Founded in August 1965, the Bonsai Society of Australia, Inc. is one the first Australian bonsai societies.
The first meeting occurred on August 1965, at the Sydney suburb of Roseville, a few suburbs north of the Harbour Bridge.
After 30 years, the meeting place was moved to approx. 45 km northwest of Sydney to the Normanhurst Public School, Normanhurst.
As from October 2000 the meetings are held at the West Pennant Hills Community Centre, 42 Hill Rd, West Pennant Hills.
The Bonsai Society of Australia meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30. The Society does not meet during the month of January.
Our meetings, as well as providing much information, are friendly and informal. Our lecturers and demonstrators are most qualified and their work is usually seminar quality. We also encourage up and coming demonstrators.
Our members bring bonsai for the bench display as part of a competition with voting done by popular choice. This competition is meant to be a form of education as upon viewing a bonsai one either approves or dislikes it. The voters have the guidelines and vote accordingly. Upon request we also provide assessments of the design and offer continued direction.
The club hold a free hands-on workshop for members on the third Tuesday of each month at the same venue.
As a non-profit association, our purpose is to promote knowledge of, and interest in bonsai and to serve as a national focal point for bonsai fanciers.
We publish a monthly Bonsai Newsletter, hold conventions for our members and provide a variety of educational and support services to the bonsai community.
The Officers and Directors of the Bonsai Society of Australia Inc are unpaid volunteers who are dedicated to spreading the word about this wonderful, satisfying and challenging hobby.
We support, rather than compete with, Bonsai Clubs International and other local, regional and international groups. We take pride in our commitment to grow these partnerships. Our members are committed to improving and developing talent. We hope to help you develop your skills.
