A great demonstration from Ray Mackaway last month, where all things wisteria were explained. Ray’s main message was that wisterias are hungry plants that need regular fertilising and love sun (six hours plus during summer) and need good pruning to maximise their flowering.
At this time of year you’re basically reducing whippy canes back to two sets of leaves and fertilising. See Ray’s full notes on how to look after
your wisteria all year round in last October’s newsletter. If you haven’t pruned your wisteria yet, best to wait until next spring and start the process then but do keep fertilising for a strong plant.
